About Brocklands Farm

Brocklands Farm is located in the heart of the South Downs National Park, in the village of West Meon. Starting life as a traditional mixed farm, with dairy cows, sheep and arable crops, it has gradually evolved and now combines arable farming with conservation and tourism.

The Farm is wonderfully unique, featuring rolling fields typical of the South Downs, interspersed with hedges and small woodland blocks. Perhaps the most unusual feature is the railway bridge, over which the Meon Valley railway line once passed. Opening in 1903 the railway line (now known as the Meon Valley Trail) formed part of the London & South Western railway ultimately running from Waterloo via Alton to Gosport, Portsmouth and on to Southampton! Whilst the line itself closed in 1955 the bridge at Brocklands Farm remains a great feature and provides a snapshot of past times in West Meon.

Brocklands Farm was purchased in 2025 by the Dunford family, who started their farming careers in the 1920’s in Semley, Wiltshire before moving to Hampshire in the 1940’s. Much like the farm at Brocklands our farming journey has evolved over the years, with the 4th generation now involved in the business!

We take our role as farmers very seriously, not only providing the highest quality food for your table but also protecting and enhancing the amazing natural environments, habitats and wildlife we are privileged to work in. We are fortunate to look after several farms in the local area, all of which we treat with the highest level of care to balance the requirements of food production with environmental sustainability.

As the agricultural industry evolves we are looking forward to the challenge of producing great food, enhancing the environment and growing our business, hopefully for many more generations to come!

The Farm

We grow the following crops on our farms, always aiming for the highest specification to make human consumption quality!

• Milling Wheat: A daily staple, grown for bread and biscuit making.
• Malting Barley: Essential ingredient in any nice pint of beer or dram of whisky!
• Milling Oats: Perfect for porridge, cereal bars and oat drinks.
• Oilseed Rape: Pressed into oil either for cooking or for bio-fuel production.
• Peas: Who doesn’t love mushy peas with their fish and chips….!

During the quieter times on the farm we host school visits, helping to educate young people about the importance of where their food comes from and the wider countryside.

Conservation

All of the farmland in our ownership is in Environmental Stewardship Schemes. Scattered throughout the farms we have areas of the following habitats:

• Winter Bird Feeding Plots
• Pollen and Nectar Areas
• Autumn Flowering Bumblebee and Bird Habitat
• Overwinter Cover Crops
• Woodland and Hedgerows

As members of the Winchester Downs Farm Cluster, we are always aiming to improve these habitats, as we consider them to be of equal importance as the crops we grow. In 2024/25 alone we planted over 550 trees and several kilometres of hedges, with plenty more to come!

Commercial/Storage

We have a small range of storage units, workshops and light commercial buildings let to local businesses.
